Terracon Foundation awards $110,000 in grants Words: Margaret FosterTerracon, an engineering consulting firm, is pleased to announce the award of $110,000 to grant recipients this spring through its community investment arm, the Terracon Foundation. The Foundation was established with a goal to reach out and become a real part of the lives of Terracon employees and the communities where they live and work. Employees complete applications which are then reviewed and decided upon by a volunteer board of professionals. The Foundation awards funds twice a year in the grant categories of community organizations and universities, and once a year presents funds for scholarships supporting dependents of employees. This marks the first round of presentations for 2015. The Foundation also awards a national partner grant in the fall round of awards. “We are thankful that the partnerships we have developed with clients have allowed us to become a strong, viable company capable of giving back to our communities,” said David Gaboury, P.E., president and CEO of Terracon. “Through the Terracon Foundation and with guidance from our employees, we have been able to support a number of deserving recipients across the United States.” Terracon has awarded $32,000 in community grants to 12 local, nonprofit programs in which employees are actively engaged with an emphasis on education and the built and natural environment. Recipients this year include: Boys & Girls Club of Saline County, Little Rock, Ark.; CrossRoads Missions, Cincinnati, Ohio; Eagles for Education Foundation, Charleston, S.C.; Freshwater Land Trust, Birmingham, Ala.; Girl Scouts of NE Kansas and NW Missouri, Olathe, Kan.; Hope House of Colorado, Denver, Colo.; Lynndale Elementary, Seattle, Wash.; Olathe Public Schools Foundation, Olathe, Kan.; Schools For Change in Africa, Inc., Denver, Colo.; Sigma Alpha Sigma, Inc., Winter Park, Fla.; Tucson Clean & Beautiful, Tucson, Ariz.; and Victory Hill Church of God, Columbus, Ohio. In an effort to support higher education, the Foundation also presents university grants to support graduate-level scholarships, fellowships, and programs in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. This spring, the Foundation presented $48,000 to eight universities. Recipients include: Texas Tech University; University of Kansas; University of Oklahoma; University of Texas-Pan American; University of Texas-San Antonio; University of Utah; and Weber State University.
